DOOR FAMILY WITH REMOVABLE TRIMS IN REVIT

There are situations when door trims need to be removed in some places but not in others. See the image below:

To control these trims we need to make some changes in the door family. Let's open the door family (double click on any door, or select it and choose "Edit Family").

We're going to add a couple of VISIBILITY parameters. Go to the "Create menu" and click on "Family Types" button. Once in there create a new parameter (Parameters>Add...) and name it "Exterior Trim".
EXTERIOR TRIM VISIBILITY INSTANCE PARAMETER
Under "Parameter data" choose "Type of parameter: YES/NO", "Group parameter under: VISIBILITY". On the right hand side choose INSTANCE. By choosing "Instance", the trim's visibility can be controlled door by door. If you choose "Type" then you will control ALL doors at the same time and this is not what we want now. Click OK.

Repeat the same steps to create an "Indoor Trim" parameter
INTERIOR TRIM VISIBILITY INSTANCE PARAMETER
Click OK and now associate the newly created parameters to the door trims. Select the exterior trim and assign it the "Exterior trim visible" parameter as shown in the following figure:
ASSOCIATE THE NEW PARAMETERS TO THE DOOR TRIMS

Apply the same procedure to associate the "Interior trim visible" parameter to the interior trim. Save the family, LOAD to project and OVERWRITE the existing version.

Back in your project select the door to remove the interior trim and UNCHECK the "Ixterior trim visible" parameter. This will remove the interior trim on this door!!!
NO INTERIOR TRIM

The next door needs BOTH trims removed, so both parameters are unchecked. See figure:
NO TRIMS AT ALL
Now you have your door trims only where you want them.
